Eat, Drink and Be Merry At The Taste of Angus FestivalNeil Hardie
The delicious flavours of Angus will be to the fore from March 19-25 when the Taste of Angus Festival 2018 takes place across the county. With special menus, events and tastings being held in the towns, villages and countryside of Angus, there’s never been a better time to experience the first-class food and drink that’s available in this corner of Scotland.
Andreou’s Bistro in Arbroath is one of the restaurants participating in this year’s Taste of Angus Festival. “To highlight the fantastic quality of meat we have on our doorstep, from Friday 12 March until Sunday 25 March, we’re pairing up with local butcher DH Robertson to offer a special Meat Mezze featuring the very best of locally-sourced meat, poultry and vegetables,” revealed chef Andrew McDonald of Andreou’s Bistro.
“Our Taste of Angus mezze consists of four courses of traditional Greek dishes, including vine leaves stuffed with minced lamb; Keftedes, which are pork meatballs; Beef Stifado, which is a rump steak and shallot stew; and Chicken Souvlaki kebab.
“At Andreou’s Bistro, we pride ourselves on serving Greek and Cypriot dishes featuring as many locally-sourced ingredients as possible. As well as supporting other local businesses, this policy ensures our diners enjoy meals made with the freshest, tastiest ingredients.”
On the evening of Saturday, 24 March, the Wee Bear Café at Bridgend of Lintrathen, near Kirriemuir, will celebrate the Taste of Angus Festival by adding live music to its menu. Top jazz musicians Rob Luft and California’s Nora Germain will be playing in this stunning venue, which overlooks Lintrathen Reservoir.
From 12 noon until 6pm on Sunday, March 25, Sacred Grounds Coffee Company will be the place to chill out and enjoy a really good cup of coffee – along with delicious pizzas, irresistible brownies, freshly-baked bread and locally-brewed ales!
“To celebrate the many tastes of our local area, we’re throwing open the roastery’s doors to welcome Muckle Backit Pizza Oven, Artisana Gourmet Brownies and 71 Brewing,” explained Kathryn Baker of Sacred Grounds Coffee Company. “In addition, artisan baker Keith from Angus Oven is coming along, too. Keith has just opened a small bakery near Arbroath and he’ll be bringing along his sourdough bread, croissants and other treats.
“We want people to pop along and meet these exceptional, Angus-based producers and, of course, fill themselves full with great food and drink whilst they relax, chat and enjoy the roastery’s unique atmosphere,” continued Kathryn, who added that pizzas must be booked in advance by contacting Muckle Backit Pizza Oven on Facebook.
“We’re delighted to be part of the Taste of Angus Festival, which always attracts producers who are as passionate and committed about what they do as we are. In Angus, there’s such an incredible larder to choose from. There’s everything from brownies to gin, seafood to goat, asparagus to berries. The Taste of Angus covers many different foods and drinks – and it’s always delicious!”
